Google and Microsoft Bing are the largest search engines that meet the information needs of users on a daily basis. Let's take a look at a detailed comparison of the two here.

Microsoft Bing vs Google
|
When it comes to website optimization, SEO professionals usually focus on Google. After all, it is the most popular search engine in the world.
But what about Microsoft Bing? Is it worth optimizing your site for Microsoft bing?
Let's see how the two search engine giants Microsoft Bing (only rebranded "Bing" in October 2020) and Google compare.
Market share (Microsoft bing vs Google)
One of the differences between Bing and Google is market share. According to Statista, by February 2021, Bing will have a 6.7% share of the global search market, while Google will control 86.6%.
That's pretty big.
And while it might be tempting to just focus on Google, Microsoft Bing offers good conversions and has a user base that shouldn't be ignored.
6.7% of those search users are the millions who use Microsoft Bing every day.
Optimizing for Bing is very important if you are targeting an American audience. In fact, one-third of online queries in the US are supported by Microsoft properties when you take Yahoo and voice search into account.
Some people have wondered for years whether Bing stands for "Because this isn't Google". I'm not sure how true that is, but the name comes from a campaign in the early '90s for its predecessor, Live Search.
Another nice thing is that Ahrefs recently surveyed the top 100 searches on Bing worldwide and is [Google] 's # 1 search query.

How Google and Microsoft Bing differ in the index and crawl size?
Google says:
“The Google Search index contains hundreds of billions of webpages and is well over 100,000,000 gigabytes in size.”
In terms of search functionality, the two giant search engines are similar, but Google offers more basic functionality:
However, even Google can't crawl the entire web.
Here it comes to the importance of structured data. It provides a data feed for your content so that Google can better understand it. That way, you can rank for rich results and get more clicks and impressions.
Microsoft Bing doesn't publish the number. However, to calculate the search engine index size of this website, the Microsoft Bing index is between 8 and 14 billion web pages.
The two mechanisms have nothing to do with their approach to web indexing.
“Bingbot uses an algorithm to determine which sites to crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site. The goal is to minimize bingbot crawl footprint on your web sites while ensuring that the freshest content is available.”
Around the same time, the above statement was made, Google's John Mueller said:
“I think the hard part here is that we don’t crawl URLs with the same frequency all the time. So some URLs we will crawl daily. Some URLs maybe weekly. Other URLs every couple of months, maybe even every once half year or so. So this is something that we try to find the right balance for, so that we don’t overload your server.”
Google has a mobile index for the first time, while Microsoft Bing takes a different position and has no plans to implement the first-indexing policy for mobile devices.
In contrast, Microsoft Bing maintains an index that is optimized for desktop and mobile devices. So it's important to make sure your website experience is optimized, loads fast and offers what users are looking for.
Google is more than just a search engine with products like Gmail, Google Maps, Chrome OS, Android OS, YouTube, and many more.
Microsoft Bing also offers email via Outlook as well as other services such as Office Online or OneDrive.
However, unlike Google, Google doesn't have its own operating system. Instead, Windows Phone 8 or iOS is used on Apple devices.
Now let's see where Bing is on par with Google - or better.
